This title is complete with clinical practice guidelines, complete 2009 policy statements, clinical and technical reports, and five section easy-to-use organization. This is a lengthy, no-frills book, all in black and white, with minimal pictures, charts, or diagrams. The first third contains more than 30 clinical practice guidelines for common pediatric conditions including asthma, otitis media, and ADHD, to name just a few. Not only is diagnosis and management of each condition discussed, but coding guidance and samples of patient education handouts are included. Policies either issued or endorsed by the AAP constitute the bulk of the remaining two-thirds of the book. Each policy is followed by extensive references as well as useful resources when appropriate.
Of note, nine of the guidelines and policies have been rewritten by the AAP Partnership for Policy Implementation to meet the needs of electronic charting as discussed in the second appendix. The index is particularly useful since the policy statements are listed alphabetically by the first word in the statement title rather than by subject.
